The start is at the picturesque Garn lakes near the Whistle inn where there is an unique collection of old miners lamps. Passing Big Pit you follow the old LMS railway line which is now part of the national cycle network. This part of the route is ideal for the less able cyclist with its traffic free gentle gradient. Cyclng through woodland and over a 100ft high Victorian viaduct you reach the canal basin at Pontymoel. You have now arrived at pick up point 1 where you can have refreshments in the Barge Tearoom

The route then continues on the Monmouthshire and Breconshire canal towpath through tranquil countryside to Goytre wharf, pick up point 2, where again you can have refreshments if you wish. From there you follow the towpath to Govilon, pick up point 3 at 23 miles

For the more dedicated cyclist there is the final option of a further 5 miles of narrow mountain roads with spectacular views of Clydach gorge, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons to complete the circuit.if you want to go off exploring, there's plenty of great mountain tracks on the Coity and Blorenge mountains around Blaenafon. Recently completed is a section of National cycle route 46 which goes from Llanfoist through the beautiful Clydach gorge to Brynmawr, the highest town in Britain.
